Director's NotesMay 2019
The Calhoun-Gordon Council for a Literate Community stays busy working to support and encourage literacy awareness, family literacy and adult education in Calhoun and Gordon County. The Board of Directors maintains active relationships with both the city and county school systems, the city and county governments, city and county libraries, local Career & College Academies, the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Gordon County. The Council is fortunate to receive financial support from a number of local corporations and organizations as well as state and national entities. So far this year, the Council has purchased dictionaries for every third grade student, participated in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, organized an annual Stay in School Tee-Shirt Contest for fourth grade students, hosted a Booster Breakfast at the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce, financed projects for the Calhoun-Gordon County Public Library and funded all GED test fees for prequalified candidates. |
